Alexis version on how she met Trevoy
So it all started one random afternoon when I was bored and scrolling through Tinder. I had the app downloaded for I don’t even know how long—every now and then I’d pop in, respond to a message or two, and then disappear for a few weeks. Nothing ever stuck.
Then came Ben.
I know what you’re thinking—Ben? Isn’t my fiancé’s name Trevoy? Yep. But back in his mysterious Tinder days, he used a fake name like a total weirdo. And of all the names he could have chosen, he went with Ben. Go figure.
Anyway, I swiped through a few of his pictures and thought he was cute. I was just about to vanish from the app again, like always, when Ben messaged me with something sweet. I told him, “Tell me more about yourself and I’ll think about giving you my number.”
And when I say this man responded with a book—he really did. He shared so much about who he was, and I could tell he was being genuine. That effort alone made me give him my number. Not just because he was cute, but because he cared enough to be thoughtful.
From there, things took off. We started talking every single day—from sun up to sundown—really connecting over our shared love of Houston sports and just getting to know each other in a way that felt so natural.
Then came our first date: Zoo Lights in December 2020.
Now, if you ask him, I was three hours late. 🙄 But let me tell it—I was just giving him time to mentally prepare for meeting his future wife. You're welcome, babe.
When I got there, he greeted me with a single yellow rose.
That small, thoughtful gesture completely melted me. To this day, yellow roses are my favorite—not just because they’re beautiful, but because that single rose was the first sign of his sweet, intentional love. It was the kind of moment that stays with you.
Fast forward a few months, Trevoy was graduating from college and we planned a weekend staycation at the Marquee Hotel in Houston. One night, we went to this beautiful Italian restaurant—and that’s where he asked me to officially be his girlfriend.
Honestly? It felt like a proposal.
We were so excited, we FaceTimed our families to share the big news. To us, it was a huge moment. To everyone else… they were confused and swore we’d already been married for like three years.
From that point on, it just kept growing.
There wasn’t one exact moment where I suddenly knew I was in love with him. It was just always there. Have you ever been treated so genuine, so kind… felt cared for, sexy, protected, heard, and understood? That’s what it’s like when you’re with your person. And over time, I just felt that more and more.
But like any love story, ours wasn’t without a few bumps. As time went on, we hit a rough patch where we both needed space to find ourselves. We separated physically, but emotionally, we were still attached.
And yes, there were a few “toxic” moments in between—like emails titled "Your Wife" or stalking each other’s social media pages under the name Ben. Don’t judge us.
After about six months of back-and-forth foolishness, we reconnected at a little taco spot downtown. Maybe not a historic place by definition, but for us, it was where everything came back to life. The spark was instant. We laughed, we talked, and it truly felt like fireworks again.
Not long after, we took a trip to Vegas and made it official again—this time, grounding our relationship in Christ and friendship. Because more than anything, we are best friends.
We’ve traveled together, got baptized, started a business, and created a life that feels full of love and purpose. But something still felt incomplete.
Then came Christmas Day, 2024.
I had just graduated with my Master of Business Administration, and to celebrate, Trevoy gifted me the ultimate surprise: an all-inclusive pass to the Houston Texans Christmas game with a Beyoncé concert. If you know me, you know that was the dream combo!
Naturally, I got all dressed up—and okay, I was running a little late again, but only because I was giving him more time to prep for forever with me.
We got to the stadium and had the time of our lives—great food, games, music, and the full fan experience. As we were heading to our seats, Trevoy mentioned his friends were there and wanted to say hi. I followed him to the balcony... and that’s when I saw them.
Our families.
Standing there, smiling, holding signs that read:
ALEXIS, WILL YOU MARRY ME?
I was in total shock—partially because I’d been sipping drinks all day, but mostly because I couldn’t believe the moment was real. I barely let him speak before I shouted, “HELL YEAH!”
Trevoy dropped to one knee, and I instantly started crying. Happy tears, nervous tears, all the tears. Because deep down, I knew I was saying yes to the man who was my partner, my protector, my biggest cheerleader—and my very best friend.”
